Free Drawing Winners Wild Hog Hunt
Wilderness Calls is pleased to announce that the first free drawing winner chose to take advantage of a spring wild hog hunting. The week started when James and I began planting our spring food plots. Then it was preparation time for the arrival of our honored guest. Making sure all the last minute plans were made and recognizing the patterning of the wild hogs feeding times. The trail cameras were set and the wild hogs were very photogenic. We were able to photograph several large wild hogs as they fed in the early morning. The day for the first guest and grand prize winner had arrived. Thursday around noon Ron called me and requested help finding Wilderness Calls. I advised him to just go where civilization ended! I met him at the end of the paved roadway and escorted him to the Wilderness. As he pulled into the camp area with his camo Jeep, a tree stand on top, large cooler, and a big smile on his face, I knew we were going to have a great hunt! It did not take him long before he was riding the ATV and checking out where he could harvest a large wild hog. His face lit up as he looked at the recent pictures of the wild hogs we had to show him. That evening we feasted on a side of ribs from one of Wilderness Calls wild hogs. I do believe Mr. Ron was still eating around 11:00 PM that evening, or at least he had a rib bone in his hand. Friday morning arrived and we all woke up before the sun had started spreading its rays on our part of the earth. Even though the Redneck Guru was not going to be hunting, the thought of guiding our honored guest did excite me. As the light of day began to break the darkness of the wilderness, we could hear a herd of wild hogs as we stood by the camp fire just a few hundred yards from the camp. Now Michael (Ron's guest) would say that Ron is the luckiest hunter in the world, but the Wise Old Redneck Guru would say it was his guide skills that steered the wild hogs so close to the camp. Ron took aim at a large gilt and squeezed the trigger and she fell to the ground. Now folks it does not get any better than this, a successful harvest and then breakfast! As soon as we finished cleaning the large wild hog, Ron was busy sending pictures to his friends and his buddy Michael to show him what he had in store. It was not long after that, Michael arrived and was ready to start hunting himself. The Redneck Guru decided to put Michael in his favorite spot when it comes to harvesting the elusive wild boar hog. The same spot where little Samuel and Michael (Bill's son in law) had harvested a large wild boar in the past. Yes, the original and first feeder placed on Wilderness Calls several years ago," the tripod feeder"! About 30 minutes before dark I heard Michael shoot. I proceeded to the location to see what he had harvested and you guessed it, a large young boar. Here again is the reason that I love this sport, the smile on his face was priceless! This was the first wild boar he had harvested and you could tell he was excited. Michael was not the only one excited, for Mr. Ron had walked back to camp from the Ghetto stand to see what Michael had shot. I could see a bit of pride in his face also. Did I mention that Michael was Ron's step son? After the hunt was over and our guests left with a cooler full of pork and a big smile on their faces, James (Wilderness Calls conservationist) broke out his gun, "a camera" and started taking pictures of the beauty of the wilderness. Do not miss the pictures he took! They will show you another side of the wilderness. It was a great week at Wilderness Calls, one that James or myself will never forget!
Ron's view of his spring wild hog hunting
DEAR SAM AND JAMES,
JUST A NOTE TO TELL YOU WHAT A GREAT TIME MICHAEL AND I HAD ON OUR SPRING HOG HUNT. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AND THE FRIENDLY FAMILY-STYLE-ATMOSPHERE WAS PERFECT FOR A RELAXED HUNT LIKE WE HAD.
YOU GUYS WENT OUT OF YOUR WAY TO MAKE SURE WE HAD A GOOD TIME AND GOT THE CHANCE TO KILL TWO VERY NICE HOGS. SINCE THIS WAS MICHAELS FIRST HOG HUNT I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN HAPPIER WHEN HE GOT HIS FIRST TROPHY HOG AND GAINED SOME KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO FIELD DRESS AND CLEAN HIS HOG FROM THE MASTER "REDNECK GURU".
YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT PIECE OF PROPERTY THAT YOU KNOW WELL AND ALSO HAVE GONE TO GREAT LENGTHS TO MANAGE AND KNOW THE HABITS OF DEER AND HOGS ON THE PROPERTY. THAT MADE FOR AN ORGANIZED AND PLEASUREABLE HUNT.
I HOPE TO BE SEEING YOU ALL THIS FALL WHEN DEER SEASON ROLLS AROUND.
ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT HUNT AND FOR THE GOOD FOOD AND FELLOWSHIP THAT MICHAEL AND I ENJOYED WHILE WE WERE WITH YOU.
Guru says, it is not the thunder after a bolt of lightning that you hear, which will hurt you, it is the one that you do not hear. This means you are the target!!!
