Use the moon phases to assist you, in determining the feed times of deer and fish.
A lot has been written about the moon. From the beginning of time the moon phases have affected people, as well as animals and fish. Before calendars and modern communication the moon was used to tell time and predict the changing of the seasons. Early man would know when the seasons were going to change by how many times the moon turned to full. This assisted them in planting the crops, as well as hunting and fishing. How can an object so far away affect this great planet we live on so drastically? Makes one wonder how all this came to pass.

It affects fish so drastically that you can tell when they are going to lay their eggs by the moon phase. In the spring the large mouth bass will lay their eggs at a creation moon phase and in the fall the sea mullet and many other fish, will spoon according to the moon phase. You would think they were watching the moon to determine when to lay their eggs. If you ask a saltwater fisherman, he will be able to tell you how long you have to fish for mullet, if you are looking for the tasty roe. He uses no computers or modern gadgets in order to determine this, it is all done by the moon phase. In the oceans the moon phases control trillions of gallons of water, as if it was telling the water which way to go. Some moon phases are so drastic at times, the tides' pull will be higher or lower depending on the moon phase.
The moon phases have been blamed for a lot of mans indiscretions also. It has been proven that when the moon phase is full, it can cause people to do things they normally would not do.
I have been hunting for over 40 years and I can say that the moon phase does affect the best times to hunt. I still have trouble understanding how a deer can tell when the moon is rising or falling. Even though they are color blind, it seems they can see the moon and know the best feeding times. Many hunters will say that a deer feeds all night when the moon phase is full, but the animals feed times are consistent no matter what the moon phase is. They feed on the rise and fall of the moon and do not consider how bright it is. Most animals are nocturnal by nature and I am sure the fact that the moon phase is full does help them during their feeding time. I believe this is one way a hunter can blame the moon when he does not harvest his prey. I know I have done that many times instead of admitting I was not in the best place to hunt or moving, or maybe meditating too much in my stand, I blamed the moon phase. The fact that deer feed more when it is dark is one reason for hunting early in the morning or late in the evening. It may not be a peek feed time, but you can catch the deer completing their feeding cycle and traveling back to their bedding area. When the buck is affected by the moon phase and goes into rut, he will become less nocturnal and be seen more in the daylight. This also is caused by the moon, just like the sea mullet, the buck deer will rut or mate in the fall of the year.
We have provided a moon phase calendar for you to use in planning your next hunting or fishing trip.

Good luck and do "mo huntin" and "mo fishin" !
